Making fun of all the tourists that place themselves in a pose with one or both hands raised (so that the photo looks like you are holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa), sneaking at the back or beside them, a Roumanian blogger suddenly starts high fiving a large group of tourists in Miracle Square. Surprising or amusing, the best scenes appear in this video, composed by the young man and posted on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u06wUniQVlk. It was actually the Japanese tourists who first started taking photos pretending to hold up the Leaning Tower of Pisa, a behaviour that has now become as famous as the Leaning Tower of Pisa itself. This behaviour can be found also in the film ‘Shijie’ (The World), included in the list of movies analysed in the book Cinedipendente - The Films with the Leaning Tower of Pisa, in which twice tourist are filmed in a theme park in Beijing taking photos while pretending to hold up a small scale Leaning Tower of Pisa. On the other hand for some time now a number of tourists, mainly young ones, have instead started posing for photos pretending to do the opposite gesture: i.e. faking a last push to the Leaning Tower of Pisa so as to make it tumble down.
Bentrovati
Alessio Carli is a professional journalist with a great passion for cinematography. In December 2011 he transformed his passion into a book, which he called Cinedipendente (volume 1), followed by Cinedipendente volume 2, dedicated to all the appearances or mentioning of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in the world of cinema. The writing of this book made him realize that the Leaning Tower of Pisa has become much more than just a monument: it has now to all effects acquired the status of a true and real pop icon which is adopted in the theatre, media, advertising, and industry sector. So alongside with the book he chose to blog this site, which he considers to have two main functions: an interactive work in progress platform for the discovery of the other numerous appearances of Leaning Tower of Pisa in parts of films or any type of media; and secondly a method for updating the main thread of his research: movies in which the Leaning Bell Tower of Pisa and Miracle Square are filmed; in addition to also researching movies where other areas of Pisa are shown.
