La Torre di Pisa è protagonista delle copertine dei due album che vedono insieme per l'unica volta tre mostri sacri del jazz: Lester Young al sax, Nat King Cole al piano, Buddy Rich alla batteria. Nel 1951 e 1953 una Torre Pendente stilizzata e che sembra avere impresso sulla superficie una specie di spartito, è protagonista in The Lester Young Trio e The Lester Young Trio No. 2 . L'immagine è identica: un Lester Young stilizzato che suona il sax con un'inclinazione uguale e contraria alla Torre, gialla nel primo album e arancione nel secondo. Un omaggio del disegnatore David Stone Martin allo strano angolo innaturale che formava il braccio di Lester Young nell'impugnare il sassofono.

The
Leaning Tower of Pisa celebrated by Jazz
The
Leaning Tower of Pisa is the main star of the two front album covers which saw
the one and only combined effort of the three sacred jazz masters: Lester Young
at the sax, Nat King Cole on the piano, and Buddy Rich on drums. It was back in
between 1951 and 1953 that a stylized Leaning Tower of Pisa appearing to have some
sort of a music sheet printed on it played a central role in ‘The Lester Young
Trio Vol.1.’ and ‘The Lester Young Trio Vol.2. The image on the two album
covers is identical: a stylized Lester Young playing the sax with an equal but
opposite inclination to the Leaning Tower of Pisa which is coloured yellow on
vol.1 and orange on vol.2. The artist David Stone Martin paid a special tribute
to the strange unnatural bend which Lester Young’s arm formed when playing the sax.
